Acura Auto Show Virtual Driving Experience

Case study of Acura VR experiencen I produced for major auto shows in 2016-2018. The user sits in a custom designed driving pod and puts on Oculus Rift headset to explore and manipulate the Acura NSX vehicle exterior using LeapMotion sensors, then takes the car for a short virtual drive. Includes realistic haptic feedback for the steering wheel and brakes.

User sits in a custom designed driving pod and dons Oculus Rift headset to explore Acura NSX vehicle from outside, then takes it for a short drive.  

  • Timeline: Initial Build 2 months, Updates 4 months, including physical construction of pod.
  • Deliverables:  Unity application and assets for Oculus Rift, installed and supported on site and remotely
  • .Challenges: Short initial timeline, needed to do a lot for little money, directing and integrating physical pod construction. 
  • Solutions: Worked design and development in parallel as much as possible with short feedback intervals, educated and continually refreshed client about technology, drove management of pod physical construction. 
  • Result: Very pleased clients, extremely popular engagement that client ordered multiple units built and sent to various events for several years
